The Out-Patient Department:

The OPD of the hospital is located in a newly constructed three storied building. There are two clinics for Medicine, two clinics for Obstetrics & Gynaecology, three clinics  for  Eye,  which  includes  one  for  Eye  Pediatric  patients,  one  clinic  each  for  Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Dental, three clinics for Medicine Specialist & Pediatrics, one clinic each for Homeopathy,  Urology,  Reproductive  Medicine  (Infertility),  Yoga  & Naturopathy and  Plastic, Reconstructive & Burn surgery.

There is also a Dressing Room, Injection Room, Dispensary, Vaccination Room, RNTCP DOT room for TB Treatment, and a Counseling room for ICTC and PPCTC.  The building also has an optical counter.  A Laboratory Sample collection room, a Registration counters and a free medicine dispensary are also located in the building.  Well-furnished  corridors  and  halls  for  the patients  to  sit  are  an  added  attraction.  All these clinics are staffed with qualified medical and paramedical personnel and general duty workers. The building also accommodates a Pay Clinic, which runs at stipulated times.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

The Emergency department of the hospital renders services to patients throughout day and night. It  is located  at  a  convenient  location,  just  near  the  entrance  of  the  hospital.  The department is manned by Medical Officers and nursing personnel.  It has nine beds specially maintained for Casualty cases. A free ambulance service is run round the clock for bringing in patients from in and around Itanagar. Apart from catering to the Casualty and Emergency cases, the department also has provision for administering injections to regular patients, whose injection timings fall during non-OPD hours.

The Indoor department

The Indoor department has 263 beds. Nearly all diseases and both medical and surgical cases, are treated here under expert medical supervision with care provided by a band of dedicated nursing staff. The occupancy of the beds is about 80% in winter season and overcrowded in summer and rainy seasons. Extra beds are provided to meet emergencies, which occur quite frequently. Out of the 263 beds, the hospital has a dedicated Eye Ward with 16 beds.

The Department is divided into nine wards - Male Ward I, Male Ward II, Female Ward I, Female Ward II, Maternity Ward, Paediatric Ward, and Casualty Ward, Eye ward and a higher care unit.

The department also has two suite cabins, two deluxe cabins and six pay cabins under the Male Ward. The Maternity ward has sixteen paying beds. There is also a NICU, which has 8 beds.

The  department  is  well  manned  by  trained  and  experienced  nursing  Staff  and General  Duty Workers.  All  the  wards  have  proper  bio-medical  waste  disposal  system,  under  which  garbage generated is segregated into different categories and disposed-off in different coloured containers. Well-cooked and hygienic food is provided free to all in-patients.

Out  of  the  total  beds  available  in  the  hospital,  60  beds  are  specially  earmarked  for  the  poor patients, which are maintained under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.

The Laboratory

The  hospital  has  a  laboratory  where  nearly  all  the  parameters  of  the  clinical  investigations essential  for  modern  system  of  medicine  are  conducted.  It  is  well  equipped  with  necessary instruments  including  a  fully  automated  biochemistry  analyzer  and  two  semi-auto  analyzers, haematology  analyzer,  ELIZA  reader.  The laboratory added the latest COBAS e 411 (Fully automated) Electrochemiluminiscence Immuno Assay Analyzer which has further enhanced its diagnostic capability. The equipment was donated by the State Bank of India, Regional Branch, as part of its CSR program. Another bio-chemistry analyzer was added with 360tests/hour capacity.

THE BLOOD BANK

The hospital has a licensed, fully functional blood bank, which provides emergency requirement of blood to patients undergoing operations and for therapy purposes. Periodically blood donation camps are held in the R.K.Mission Hospital and around Itanagar.   During this period, 32 such camps were held and 804 units of blood has been collected. Recently, we added Blood component separation unit in the blood bank of our hospital.  The unit started functioning from December 2017.

Operation Theatre:

There are four Operation Rooms. One operation room is utilized only for eye operations. Almost all types of operations are performed with a high percentage of success. Ultrasonic scalpel is the latest   addition   to   the   existing   unit.   Besides   general   surgeries,   Microsurgeries,   Functional, Endoscopic   Sinus   Surgeries,   Trans-urethral   resection   of   the   prostate   are   performed   here. Laparoscopic surgeries are also performed by expert surgeons.

Audiometry:

The department of Audiometry is having Interacoustic Impedance and Pure tone audiometers for the assessment of deafness. A modern Amplaid audiometer has been added to the department to help in more precise diagnosis of deafness.

Radiology:

This department is equipped with four X-Ray plants of different capacities. It has qualified staff who   perform   all   routine   X-Rays   and   special   investigations   like   Barium   Studies,   Oral Cholecystography,       Intravenous       Urography,       Hystero-Salphinography,       Myelograms, Bronchograms, etc. The department is equipped with the latest Computed Radiography Imaging system. The department is run under the able supervision of full time qualified Radiologists.

MRI:

The  hospital  has  a  0.35 T  MRI system  –  Magnetom  C,  which  is the latest  addition in  the  step towards equipping this hospital for better service. This is the first-of-its kind facility in the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh. With the opening of this service, the local people of the state can now get the benefit of advanced diagnosis without having to move out of the state.

Upper GI Endoscopy:

This unit was started in the year 1990 with a fiber optic Upper GI Endoscope and in later years saw  additions  of  a  Colonoscope  and  another  Upper  GI  Endoscope.  Various  investigations  like Mucosal biopsies, Chromoscopy, Polypectomy, upper and lower gastro-intestinal investigations, etc. are done with a high degree of perfection by specially trained doctors.

Ophthalmology:

The department of ophthalmology was started in the hospital in the year 1982. The department is equipped   with   Slitlamp,   Applanation   Tonometer,   Auto-Refractometer,   direct   and   indirect Ophthalmoscope,  Synoptophore,  A  Scan,  Keratometer,  YAG  Laser  machine  and  operating microscope, B Scan, auto-lensometer and Phaco-emulsifier. IOL microsurgery with small incision cataract operation, glaucoma surgeries, oculoplastic surgeries, squint correction, DCR and DCT, etc, are routinely performed. The department has also added a Phacoemulsification machine (Sovereign Compact), Topcon Retinal Fundus camera with FFA unit, Optical coherence Tornography system & Nidek Opthalmic Diode-pumper Green laser etc.

Mobile Outreach Eye Care Unit:

The department has a “Mobile Outreach Eye Care Unit”.  It is a first-of-its-kind project in Arunachal Pradesh. The project is funded by an international organization named “Light for the World”. The  project  delivers  basic  eye  care services free  of cost  at  the  doorsteps  of needy eye patients   of   Papumpare   District   and   nearby   areas   of   other   districts.   The   project   helps   in identification and treatment of eye diseases, eye health education and training of health volunteers. During the year, the hospital conducted 31 camps in villages/Schools of Papumpare District and nearby areas.  In  these  outreach  camps  a  total  of  5567  patients  were  screened  of  which  4412 belonged to the Scheduled Tribes.

Artificial Limbs Fitting Centre:

This center was started in the year 1986 and ever since been rendering excellent service to disabled and  physically  handicapped  persons  of  the  state  as  well  as  the  neighboring  areas  of Assam. The centre manufactures artificial limbs for both upper and lower extremities and several items of calipers, braces, splints and appliances to suit the orthotic and prosthetic requirement of the patients  of  the  hospital  and  for  those  who  are  referred  to  this  hospital  from  outside.  The technicians of this centre have been specially trained in the craft at Jaipur and Kanpur under an in- service training program.

Homeopathy Department:

A homeopathy dispensary was opened in the year 2004.  The dispensary named as the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital Homeopathy dispensary is run in collaboration with North Eastern Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital. With the opening of this dispensary, the patients can now also opt for an alternate system of medicine.

Dialysis Department:

This department is equipped with six bedded Dialysis unit.  The  department  is  supervised  and guided  by  a  Medicine  Specialist  who  has  been  specially  trained  in  Ramakrishna  Mission  Seva Pratisthan at Kolkata, and manned by specially trained personnel.

School of Nursing:

A School of Nursing was started in the year 1985 for training tribal girls of Arunachal Pradesh. It offers  a  three-year  diploma  course  in  General  Nursing  &  Midwifery  (GNM).  The  School  is affiliated to the  Arunachal  Pradesh  Nursing  Council. The School code is APNC/GNM/01. It  has  also been recognized  by the  Indian Nursing Council. To deliver a better quality teaching in the classrooms, the school set up digital equipments with interactive whiteboards. To mitigate the power outage problem, an off grid 30 KW Solar Photovoltaic Power plant has been installed.

Dietary Services:

The hospital provides food free of cost to the in-patients and also to the poor attendants in some cases. Care is taken to see that the diet provided is wholesome and hygienic. The food is cooked in the  hospital  kitchen,  which  has  a  latest  electrically  operated  cooking  range  rarely  found  in  the North Eastern region. The electrical cooking range ensures that the food cooked in it retains all the nutritional  requirements.  The  kitchen  is  also  equipped  with  a  potato  skin  peeler,  meat  cutter, chapati puffer, dough kneader, milk boiler, etc. Great care is taken in buying vegetables and other essential items. Vegetables are also supplied from the hospital garden from time to time.

Dairy:

The hospital has a dairy of its own. Milk produced from the dairy is provided to the patients and staff members.

Medical Library:

The hospital medical library housed in the administrative block is open to staff on all  working days  at  evening  hours.  Books  on  most  medical  subjects,  medical  journals  and  other  medical information  are  available  here.  The  library  has  a  special  collection  of  books  on  Orthotics  and Prosthetics.

Medical Store:

The  hospital  has  a  well-equipped  medical  store,  which  stores  medicines  and  other  hospital supplies. The store supplies free medicines to the Indoor wards and the outdoor dispensary.

Laundry Services:

The hospital has a laundry service to provide freshly washed clothing and linen to the inpatients of the hospital. The laundry has 6 nos.  Industrial Washer & 2 nos.  of Industrial Dryer  of 10.2 kg capacity each.

Engineering and Maintenance Department:                                            

The hospital has an in-house maintenance department for looking after the minor breakdowns that occur in the day-to-day running of the hospital. The department ensures that work of the hospital is never affected due to minor breakdowns. It also installs new electric fittings, plumbing & sanitary fittings of the hospital.

Department Of Bio-Medical Engineering:

The hospital has Bio-Medical Engineering division which is headed by a qualified and trained clinical engineer. This department is responsible for installation, maintenance and monitoring various equipments, instruments and other bio-medical related jobs in the hospital.

Department of Construction & Building Maintenance:

The hospital is proud to have its own construction & building maintenance department which is headed by a monk, who supervises and guides all the construction works and existing building maintenance jobs. The department has been functioning almost since inception. This has erected valuable additional infrastructures such as new OPD building, new staff quarters, etc.

In-House Oxygen Gas Generator:

Until a, few years back, the hospital had to bring medical grade oxygen from Guwahati. This had to purchased. With increase in the number of surgeries, the consumption also increased. This resulted in frequent trips to Guwahati, which become expensive. The hospital decided to find a solution to this. Thanks to the Infosys Foundation, which stepped forward to help us out with an oxygen generation system. Since installation, this has been working very successfully, reducing the expenses and logistic related problems encountered with frequent visits to Guwahati. This has made the work of the nursing staff very easy and the patients are also comfortable with the system.

The hospital installed a high speed gas bottling plant by which we can fill various sizes of cylinders, which are used for transit patients within the hospital and outside the hospital. Oxygen Generator supplies gas to a manifold, which carries oxygen to all the beds in the hospital though centralized pipeline system.

 Ambulance Services:

The hospital runs a free, round the clock, ambulance service for the people in and around Itanagar.

Mortuary:

The hospital had refrigerator for two bodies. Another refrigerator for 2 bodies was added.

Staff Quarters:

The hospital complex includes staff quarters in its premises with its own boundary wall. As far as possible, the staff and their family members  are provided  free accommodation in the premises. Quarters are allotted according to the grade of services. The staff quarter complex of the hospital is an example of unity in diversity, as here people belonging to different caste, creed and religion live together like one big family.

A  new  4  stories  staff  quarter  was  inaugurated  by  Srimat  Swami  Bodhasaranandaji  Maharaj, Assistant Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math on May 14, 2014 inside the hospital complex. This building has following type of quarters: Type IV – 4 nos., Type III – 2 nos., Type II – 8 nos., Type I – 4 nos.

Pharmacy:

The hospital has a pharmacy to cater to the needs of the patients. By this the patients and their relatives  are  saved  from  a  lot  of  trouble  in  procuring  medicine.  It  was  inaugurated  by  Srimat Swami  Bodhasaranandaji  Maharaj,  Assistant  Secretary,  Ramakrishna  Math  and  Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math on May 14, 2014. A special discount of 10% is provided on all products available.

Pediatric Ward:

A  dedicated  31  bedded  Paediatric  ward  was  constructed  in  the  space  where  the  old  OPD  was located. The ward is having GE Lullaby LED phototherapy units – 2 nos., Oxygen Concentrator – 1 no.

NICU:

A fully equipped 8 bedded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for care of ill or premature new born infants was constructed. The unit is having: Fetal Monitor – 7 nos., GE Lullaby warmer – 7 nos., Billisoft + high intense phototherapy – 2 nos., GE Lullaby LED phototherapy units – 7 nos., GE Giraffe Omnibed incubator – 1 no., Oxygen Concentrator – 1 no., Blood Gas Analyser – 1 no.

Bio-Medical Incinerator:

The  hospital  had  installed  a  bio-medical  incinerator  of  20  kg  per  hour  burning  capacity.  Bio-Medical wastes of hospital are collected and are incinerated as per specifications.

Employees’ Co-Operative Society Limited:

The hospital has an Employees’ Co-operative Society Limited, which functions in a double storied building. It runs a medicine shop, a fair price shop and a canteen.

Sub-Post Office:

The  hospital  has  a  Sub-Post  Office  in  its  own  premises,  which  has  been  named  as  the Ramakrishna Mission Post Office. This enables the staff and patients of the hospital to utilize the postal service without having to move out of the campus.

Vivekananda Hall:

The hospital has an auditorium named Vivekananda Hall, with a seating capacity of 400 people. Various seminars and functions are conducted here.

Helipad:

The  government  of  Arunachal  Pradesh  has  constructed  a  Helipad  within  the  hospital  premises which helps in airlifting critically ill patients to other major hospitals for further treatment and to bring patients from interior parts of the state.

Non-Formal Education:

The   hospital   is   running   a   non-formal   education   centre   in   Sonitpur   district   of   Assam   in collaboration with Sri Sri Ramakrishna Sangha, Biswanath Charali. During the aforementioned period 24 children got benefited from the program.
